Kresley Cole: Murdock and Danielas Story IAD

I found Cole’s imagery of the Icere world to be fantastic! What’s not to love about a Viking-like race that thrives in a winter wonderland of constant subzero temperatures.

I don’t know what it is about Vikings, the metal-horned helmets, tall Nordic features or supreme alpha presence but I can’t get enough of them. I was so utterly enraptured by this aspect of the story that I almost felt let down by Daniela’s chosen mate. I guess I had come to expect the typical male/female paradigm of Cole’s earlier books, male lusts after female, female makes the male work for it and then ka-boom, fireworks! For the most part I enjoyed this story but I couldn’t help feeling that Murdoch just didn’t deserve Daniela. He was a commitment-phobic ladies’ man that couldn’t be tied down by the trappings of love or bounded to someone who he couldn’t touch.  This dynamic was so shatteringly realistic of real relationships that I felt a bit put off. Where was the unsung hero of the lore to come in and swoop me off my feet? He’s no hunky lykae that’s for sure!

The richness of Daniele’s Icere background and unique aspects of her own race made me wonder what the story would have been like if she had ended up with someone from her homeland. I felt that Daniela’s story was so enriched by this mysterious race of lore-folk that I kept wanting more to happen. Murdoch was such an ass for most of the book that I for one, wanted to stand up for Daniela! She deserved better! Had I been her matchmaker I would have set her up with the Icere male that found her and brought her back to her homeland. Alas, everything did work out in the long run and the book was still great but Murdoch, you better watch yourself. One wondering eye or thought of giving up on your commitment and I’ll petition Cole fans to have your ass sent back to N’awlins!

(Murdock dialing Daniela’s  number, 867-5309)

A woman’s voice said, “If you’ve reached this message and you weren’t trying to contact Regin the Radiant” –

Regin?

Then I know three things about you.

One of my half sisters just tooled your ass and never wants to see you again.

B. You’re pop-culturally illiterate not to know that this number is a song.

And three, you’ll never tell another male about this humiliating prank, so the number trick can be continued indefinitely.

If, however, you called for moi, then say something to amuse me after the beep.”

That little witch…

Gena Showalter: Aleaha Love (Shapeshifter) and Breean’s Story- Alien Huntress Series

The Rakans are back! Ms. Showalter hit one out of the park with this short story.  She melded the fun, flirty dialogue that I so loved from Devyn in Seduce the Darkness and piqued my interest with a new shape-shifter species.  We go back in time in a bit to before Devyn’s story and we meet Macy/aka Aleaha Love. Aleaha the long lost friend of the vampire Bride.  I don’t know why I am so fascinated with the Rakans but I just can’t get enough of these guy’s: golden skin, honeyed-smell/taste, washboard abs, a warrior’ strength and a libido that promises to never have a headache. If you’re looking for an entertaining yet heart-felt read I recommend this series, you won’t be disappointed.

Should’ve stayed home, Aleaha Love thought.  ‘Cause we’re gonna get spanked. Hard. And not in a good way.

“What. Ignoring me?” Devyn said with another of those snarky laughs. “Wasn’t like I was going to ask to feel you up or anything, I mean, I was just gonna surprise you with my handsiness.”

Aleaha: “ Can you take nothing seriously?”

Devyn: “Hello, have you met me? I take making out very seriously.”

I think if you’re like me and can’t wait to get your hands on anything written by Gena Showalter and Kresley Cole – this should be on your shelf immediately.  If your not I would suggest you wait until this comes out in paperback unless you don’t mind the hardback pricing.  Target and Borders were selling this book A LOT cheaper than Barnes and Noble – don’t make the mistake I did, I’m still “not over” my $6.00 B&N pout.

  1. I know my copy wil arrive in the next two weeks and I can’t wait to get my hands on both stories. One, because I’m an IAD junkie and need another fix to tie me over to january and two…I have heard much on Gena Showalter and this is a way for me to taste yet another series from her.

But looking around your blog and liking the new style I hardly can read the text with the background also being dark :( So I really had to frown and squint to read your review. Perhaps it is my pc screen setting but thought I should at least give a shout out about it!

  2. Fantastic Review! Those quotes had me giggling too. ;)

I love Cole’s IAD series I’ve been awaiting this story for a long time. I’m totally feelin’ you on your points and I’m anxious to see if I’ll feel the same way.

As far as Showalter goes, I haven’t read this particular series of hers but it sounds good.

I can’t wait to get my copy!!

    ;) VFG

P.S. The new look is smokin’ too btw. :)

  4. I just got this one! Uh-oh..Murdoch better watch out! Can’t wait to start it..so glad to read a review of it!

  5. @Leontine I can’t go into the cluster f that is and continues to be this re-design *sigh* I swapped out the background b/c apparently I’m the only one that can see the text (holding hand to forehead). 2 weeks is super long time to wait!!!! You’ll like Gena Showalter’s story & she gives up a little Devyn in there.

@VFG aww thanks for the new look shout out – brings a little tear to my eye. I have been patiently (not really) waiting for Daniela’s story for like ever – I dug the whole Icere race b/c I’m obessesed with Vikings and ice apparently. Showalter’s Atlantis & Alien Huntress are my original favs of hers, now LOTU – so I guess everything she writes :)

@Tiffany I just lurve Cole’s IAD series my only complaint is that I need more books of hers! I started out with Gena Showalter’s Atlantis series and Alien Huntress then I became addicted. Devyn is my fav in the Alient Huntress series (Seduce the Darkness) so many one-liners.

  6. I have GOT to get my hands on a copy of this. Kresley Cole is a favorite of mine and now that I’m reading LOTU, I’m loving Gena Showalter as well. Great review as always KC. :)

  7. Both Gena and Kresley write some sexy laugh out loud hilarious books.

Those excerpt you posted gave me a good chuckle.

  8. @Fiction Vixen if you are a Kresley Cole fanatic like I am you’ll pay any price. Right? I’m wincing b/c it is hardback, I’d probably go into debt for the IAD seris fo sure.

@katiebabs I love both of them- they constantly crack me up. I love the faux phone number Murdock gets from Daniela – it’s so what I would have done (maybe I have… now that I think about it)

  9. @mandi btw I was so bummed when you told me it was $T6.00 at target and I bought my for over $20.00 at B&N – I felt ripped off, betrayed, and grumpy. Moving on – I’m clapping and excited that you get to read it – Desh the hottie Demon also makes an appearance *swoon*

  10. This book looks great. I seriously have to read some Kresley Cole-I don’t know why I haven’t read her before. I love the new look!

@Wendy *crosses fingers* wishing your Deep Kiss of Winter a swift deliverly to your doorstop.

@Marie K thankies – it only took some blood, sweat, and tears to get this new look. A graphic designer I’m not!

  14. I need to get my copy. I love both and together in one book- I just need this book.
    Great review hon!

  15. You have the knack for the picking the most intriguing quotes from a book. Love it! I went ahead a pre-ordered this baby months ago on Amazon.com, I’m going to be reading it very soon. Great review, thanks!

  16. I had to come back because I just finished Cole’s story. I have a totally different opinion of Murdoch..I found his gruffness and blundering of their relationship – cute. Yes he acted all cave man, but Dani needed someone like that, in my opinion.

What is up with Jadian? I don’t think we have seen the last of him. Especially at the end when Dani asked him for that “favor” and he seemed put-out. He said he would never take a wife..why? I am very intrigued by him.

I was so diappointed with Kiss of a Demon King that I wasn’t really looking forward to this one..soooooo glad I read it. Loved it.

  17. @Donna Kresley Cole and Gena Showatler make it so easy to pick great quotes.

@Mandi I’m crossing my fingers that Jadian will get his own book b/c I’m a huge fan of the Icere world and I heart ice. I liked Kiss of a Demon King – I am waiting impatiently for Sabine sister’s book with that guy (name escapes me) that keeps looking for them. I know I couldn’t be more vague if I tried :)

  18. I loved Sabine’s sister too…I just didn’t like Sabine ;)

  19. Gena sent me a signed copy of this! I can’t wait to read both stories.

P.S. – love the look of your blog but the comments text is tiny! :(
