#3 in Faith and Fidelity Series
Publisher Loose-ID
After their happily ever after in Faith & Fidelity, Matt and Evan move forward to a new chapter of their lives – inside the bedroom and out – with some surprises in store for both. Evan struggles with labels and feelings even as he wants to give in to his baser desires. Matt , now the ideal househusband of Queens, New York, has his own set of struggles – who is he now? What does he need and want?
Today is a special day, people Bells from Hanging With Bells just lost her m/m reading virginity to Duty and Devotion by Tere Michaels. Give her a Woo and Hoo!!!!!
KC: What peeked your interest to try out this genre? (*coughs* my tweets? Peer Pressure?)
Bells: Peer pressure was part of the reason but the main reason was I read Lover Enshrined and enjoyed Qhuinn and Blay’s scenes. I didn’t think I would enjoy them as much as I did. They were really hot and it was just a kiss that I read. So I thought maybe I might try a m/m book where the characters take it a little further. But I didn’t know of any titles until my smut buddies on Twitter started throwing titles around. I knew eventually I would have to take the leap and read one or be the only weirdo that didn’t. I like to be part of the cool group you know. –> KC I’ve heard so many others say that is where the ‘interest’ started, I knew after reading Lauren Dane’s Laid Bare that I really wanted to sink my teeth (rowr) m/m fiction.
KC: Any reservations/nervousness about reading your first man love book?
Bells: Just a little. I hoped I would enjoy it as much as a m/f book. I didn’t know if I would enjoy reading about 2 men getting it on. I’ve read books that had 3somes in it, so I figured this would just be the next step up.
KC: Give us the DL on Duty and Devotion by Tere Michaels.
Bells: Well Duty and Devotion is book 3 in this series. Book 3 is really a continuation of Book 1 (Faith and Fidelity) and focuses on the ongoing relationship between Matt and Evan. Matt has moved into Evan’s house and pretty much become Mr. Mom. He cares for Evan’s children while Evan works his many hours as a cop. Evan is still on the fence when it comes to the relationship and is nervous about taking it to the next level. And you know what I mean by the next level. He still is not comfortable with the fact that he is in love with and attracted to a man. He eventually lets some of his coworkers know that he is now gay but doesn’t feel fully comfortable in letting everyone know. Evan has many questions about his sexuality and has a hard time telling Matt this. Matt on the other hand is very comfortable in his sexuality and is ready for their sex life to go to the next level. He notices that Evan is very hesitant to do this and that makes Matt question their relationship. Their relationship is up and down throughout the whole book
KC What was your favorite scene or quote?
Bells: My favorite scene is when they finally did the deed! I went through the first book and then the 2nd book just waiting for the magic to happen. And when it did, oh boy it was good! –> KC I may have memorized the page number, I may have even bookmarked it on my kindle *blush*
Bells: I liked that this book showed how difficult it must be for a gay person to be out in society. Evan really did have some valid reason for wanting to stay in the closet. He didn’t know how his co-workers would perceive his life change. He didn’t know if his children would truly understand his relationship with Matt and the issues his kids would have to deal with if he was to fully come out of the closet. He also had to deal with his inlaws and what they might do. –> KC I felt the author did a realistic portrayal on how a straight man would come out to his family and work. My favorite part has to be when Matt refers to himself as the househusband.
Bells: The only dislike I had with the book was Evan not telling Matt how he truly felt. I think he should have let Matt know of his concerns that way they could work through their issues together.
I would give Duty & Devotion 4 out of 5 stars. I thought the book was a smooth transition from the first book. The scenes between Matt and Evan were just as hot as the first book as well. I would recommend this book to all the other m/m virgins when it’s time to get their m/m cherry popped! –> KC I definitely rate this one 4 1/2 Smokin’ Smooches
KC: So now that you have lost your m/m v-card do you think you’ll throw out your Bella Twilight doll and have Edward and Jacob make out?
Bells: If I had a Bella doll I would throw it out for no reason. That girl irritates me so much! Edward doesn’t deserve Jacob. Jacob is too hot to be with that sparkly freak! Edward deserves to be with someone like Mike Newton! Yeah much better pairing. I would love to see maybe Charlie and Jacob make out. Charlie could be the older more experienced one showing Jacob the ropes on everything from butt plugs to tea bagging. Hey just because I’m a m/m virgin doesn’t mean I know about this stuff. Wait, were we talking about dolls? –> KC *google(ing) Mike Newton* OMG I can’t believe you just said plugs and tea bagging.
Thanks Bells for coming out…er I mean coming over to my bloggy and sharing your first m/m (reading) experience.

You made me LOL at the Edward and Mike pairing ..haha i agree! Jake is too good to get manlovey with Eddie.
Im putting this series on my TBR pile sounds really good!
Welcome to wonderful world of m/m romance, Bells!
I think this book did a pretty good job of showing the things someone goes through when coming out later in life – my stepbrother was in his mid-30s, married, and had three kids when he finally came out. NOT an easy thing at all.
LOL. You guys! Yeah! Congrats, Bells!! Woo hoo! I lost my M/M virginity on My Fair Captain.
Yay Bells!!! Great books
I’m so glad you have joined us…LOL
@Bells from Hanging With Bells
Welcome to the m/m club!!!
I have not had the chance to read this series….over worked and under paid leaves this lady lacking in the time to read department. I will have to borrow the book form my sissies when they get back. (for some reason they don’t like to lend their books to me….hmmmm….could it be that i bend the covers, tear the pages, and spill drinks on them???)—not on purpose mind you
OMG!!!!!
I want Blay and Quinn to get together so bad!!!!!
(fingers crossed for next book in the BDB series)
Thanks to everyone for their encouraging words. I enjoyed this series more than I thought I would. Since reading Duty & Devotion, I have moved on to a higher level m/m book, Grey’s Awakening. Now that one was H-O-T!!! WHOOOOOOOO!!!!! I was anxious to read it because everyone kept talking about a “butter scene”. I was not disappointed. lol It’s good to know that so many people can use butter for other things other than baking and spreading on their muffins. Well, they kinda used it that way in the book. HAHAHA!! I crack myself up.
So a big thanks to Smokin for being my m/m godmother. She took me under her smutty wings and showed me the light! Also a big thanks to FERISHIA, my darling Stacy, and Smexi, the numero uno book pimp of the universe! Thanks ladies for you encouragement.
Way to go Bells!
@Bells *blushes* You are so welcome! I’m all for the popping of m/m virgin cherries and teh spreading of teh man luvs. lol You are officially not a m/m virgin any more! YAY! Welcome to the ranks of the ‘big girls’. I loved the whole series and I know I’ll be re-reading very often.
Soo…when are you popping your Black Wade cherry? Inquiring minds want to know. *evil laughter, snort*
Well shoot, I feel so honored!
So glad you enjoyed the series. (And…go Qhuinn/Blay!!)
Congrats Bells!! I have read this one but I loved Faith and Fidelity. One of my fave m/m’s . Nice review!! xoxo
LOL! Great interview.
Congrats, Bell! *sigh* I remember when i first lost mine so long ago….LOL
I hope you don’t end up doing what i did, and just read any m/m you can get your hands on! Try and be selective, because just like m/f there are some really scary ones out there. These days i buy nothing unless it comes with at least one friend’s approval!
