Twice Bitten by Chole Neill – Best Book Tori Has Read “So Far” This Year

Hey, it’s me, Tori.
First of all I’d like to thank KC for inviting me to guest post on her blog. This ranks right up there with a free for all at Duncan Donuts. Srsly. When she asked me to post about what was a favorite book of mine for 2010 it was a hard choice. So many good ones came out this year.
I’d have to say one of my all time fav PNR continuing series for 2010 is Chloe Neill’s Chicago Vampire Series.
Tres fabulouso!!
I had been meaning to read this series for awhile but as I’m sure alot of you know, when your TBR is high you get to it when you can. When my partner is crime, Mandi from Smexy Books, told me to get to crackin’ and read this series pronto- I did. All three books in 2 days.
UNBELIEVABLE!!!
The Chicago Vampire Series is a hilarious, sensual, suspenseful PNR that had me yelling, crying, snorting, and saying, ”OMG he di’nt!!!” quite a lot. Chocked full of goodness, rather like my all time fav snack, a bacon maple donut. You get crunchy goodness & sweet maple taste with each page you read. SQUEEE!! I’ve decided I want to be Merit when I grow up.
Twice Bitten is the 3rd one in the series and the best on I think. If you haven’t read the series then stop here ’cause I’m going to be spoiling a few things. If you have read the series then you know Merit was changed through no will of her own. In essence her life was taken and now she is “owned” by the Cadogan House. Soooooo not Merit’s idea of a good time. But she adapts rather well I think. Merit is the queen of snark and welds her power like a true master. Her BFF Mallory has had some changes thrown her way also. She discovered she is a sorceress AND gained the drool worthy Catcher as her main squeeze. YUM! When Merit makes sentinel of the house, she has become the house’s warrior. This deal introduces her to Luc and Lindsey. These two are the classic, “I like you lots but I’m so not going that route.” couple. Lindsey is Merit’s snark soul mate so they become instant friends. Ethan, the master of the house, is a conundrum. Over 400 years old, this man blows hot and cold quicker then a virgin on her wedding night. The attraction between them is uber hot & steamy(Chap 8 dudes…C.H.A.P.T.E.R.
but he doesn’t trust Merit.Which is rather funny because while she has annoyed, disobeyed, and ignored his orders; he is the one who continuously betrays her.
In Twice Bitten the supernatural world is preparing for war. The shifters and vampires must decided if they will unite or remain “frenemies.” Gabriel, the HAWT alpha of the Chicago shifters, has approached Ethan in hopes of an alliance. He has also alluded to Merit being “family” and is pining his family’s future on her.Ethan and Merit provide security detail during a huge werewolf summit meeting and realize that someone wants Gabriel dead. We also see more of Ethan and Merit’s relationship. Or relationship attempts. Really, for being over 400 yrs old Ethan is a dumbarse. You have to love Merit though. She maintains her dignity and her snark. No begging or smoochy love lost looks from her. No way. Merit’s heart may be breaking inside but on the outside she is a Rock Star. Her continuous, “Yes, my liege,” when speaking to him is the equivalent to flipping him the bird. And since she’s only doing what he’s always asked of her…he can’t say anything about it. OoooO the fireworks between them are spectacular. As Merit tries to sort through the politics and her heart she kicks arse and takes no prisoners.
This series just hooked me in from page one and didn’t let me go till the end. I cannot wait for more of this series.
Some of my fav quotes from Twice Bitten.
“Don’t be silly. Vampire humiliation is like a fine wine. It should be shared among friends.”
“Well he’s either just figured out you might win homecoming queen and he totally wanted that spot, or he wants to get on on one knee and apologize profusely for being such an ass.”
“If we’re not playing naked Twister, we’re wasting our waking hours.”
“I am but a common solider.”

Verra nice choice Tori. Love this series. Neill does the best job with writing sexual tension and supporting characters. Catcher = delish
Chapter 8 – FTW!
YES!! OMG this series is SO aawesome! I could nottttt believe that dumb bitch came in to town. The entire time through the book after she arrives I just kept yelling ETHAN WHAT ARE YOU DOING???! And i still keep going back to that pic in the bar of the 2 of them happy and in love. I would have ripped it down and burned it. She showed a tremendous anount of strength in this book amd is definitely a better woman than i am!! Great quotes btw, the wine one had me LOLing!!
I cannot waaait for the next boon. He HAD to have been trying to acquire that baseball since she told him about it… Oh man this book was sooo good. Great write-up Tori!
I just love this series!! Ethan is one of my favorite vampires, and who wouldn’t want to be friends with Merit, Mallory, Catcher and Jeff?
Oh nice!! This series is next up on my self imposed ‘summer reading challenge’. I can wait! Squee!!
I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!! And my favorite part was when she went all subordinate with the “my liege” crap, which you’re right, was absolutely the equivalent of her giving him the bird. I love everything about Merit, she takes things in stride and she puts up with all Ethan’s dumb-assery with a finesse that I would seriously be lacking. I like that at the end of the day, after he’s been an idiot and a complete a-hole, I still manage to love Ethan:) I agree with your choice Tori!!!
Mandi-I <3 Catcher so much. Built + bald=MINE
Pam-Arrrggg-that bish has to GO! The next one will be soooo good. Can't wait.
A Buckeye Girl Reads-This series is all ard awesomesauce.

@Throuthehaze this is one of my favorite new vamp series from 2010.
Great post Tori! This series is another one of my faves and I have to agree with you on this being on of the great reads of 2010 so far. When I read a book in this series I feel like I am sucked into the world that they live in. Chloe Neill’s writing is superb and the characters are awesome! Ethan rocks my world! I mean he knocked Raphael off the top Book Boyfriend spot for a month! No one has done that! Sigh…I can’t wait to read Book 5.
I’ve got the first book on the shelves and I know…I needs to get reading too
“If we’re not playing naked Twister, we’re wasting our waking hours.”
obviously there is also wisdom to be found in this series LOL
“quicker then a virgin on her wedding night”- best line I’ve ever read in a review. LOL
Bells-Thanks. This series totally rocks.
Leontine-It is a very wise book. You must read. Now.
Katiebabs-Thanks.
Argh why haven’t I read this yet?! It’s on my Kindle, but I think it’s one of those books that I *know* is going to rock, so I’ve been saving it to read after something that really didn’t rock. I should just bite the bullet and enjoy it!
@Emily ::chants:: Do it, do it,do it!!!!!
Damn… another series I have been wanting to read. I’m so sad and need to get to just reading my butt off ! Great review. I need it now!
I also love the Yes my liege part. It’s like when we were kids in my neighborhood. When we said sir or ma’am it was not a compliment.
I didn’t read all of the posts because I didn’t want to be spoiled. I have the first book on my TBB because I have started hearing about this sexy couple Merit and Ethan. Sounds like it needs to move up the list a bit…
This series is in my must read pile. I am definitely going to move them to the top of the pile!!
Okay, I’ve gone ahead and ordered book 1 now…!
