As many of you know our good friend KC recently made the world a better place by giving birth to the adorable future alpha male Aidan the Fierce. Since she’s up to her ears in diapers, binkies and laundry we thought we’d take advantage of her distracted state and snoop around…err I mean stop by Smokin’ Hot Books and lend a helping hand. So we crawled through the window, (she wouldn’t answer the door)  and got busy doing the dishes, tidying up, and packing up all her smut. Stuff like that. While we were here we thought we’d drop a Top List on her as well. Here we go.

10. They both get really cranky if you don’t feed them. They also enjoy a nice burp afterwards.

Baby Smokin’- your Aunties can’t wait to show your first date the full frontal nudie photos from when you were first born. We can’t wait to spoil you rotten, and when you’re older,  send you back to your parents  hopped up on sugar and caffeine.  We love you Baby Smokin’ and can already tell you’ll be a heart-breaker.

K.C. is making a speedy recovery and has already taken to walking baby Smokin’ down the halls of the hospital. He already takes after his Daddy, fiery temper and all. She is one smitten kitten and only has eyes for baby Smokin’. She is fiercely protective and not afraid to tell nurse Ratchet to f’-off with her nazi rules about visitors. You. don’t. mess. with. Mamma Smokin!

KC: Without giving too much away, what can readers expect with this new installment of your Elemental Assassin series?

JE: Of course. Here’s the back cover copy for the book:

It’s hard to be a badass assas­sin when a giant is beat­ing the crap out of you. Luck­ily, I never let pride get in the way of my work. My cur­rent mis­sion is per­sonal: anni­hi­late Mab Mon­roe, the Fire ele­men­tal who mur­dered my fam­ily. Which means pro­tect­ing my iden­tity, even if I have to con­ceal my pow­er­ful Stone and Ice magic when I need it most. To the pub­lic, I’m Gin Blanco, owner of Ashland’s best bar­be­cue joint. To my friends, I’m the Spi­der, retired assas­sin. I still do favors on the side. Like rid­ding a vam­pire friend of her over­sized stalker—Mab’s right-hand goon who almost got me dead with his mas­sive fists. At least irre­sistible Owen Grayson is on my side. The man knows too much about me, but I’ll take my chances. Then there’s Detec­tive Bria Coolidge, one of Ashland’s finest. Until recently, I thought my baby sis­ter was dead. She prob­a­bly thinks the same about me. Lit­tle does she know, I’m a cold-blooded killer … who is about to save her life.

Basically, in Venom, Gin faces her deadliest enemy yet – Elliot Slater, a super-strong giant who works for Mab Monroe. Gin is also wrestling with the fact that her former lover Detective Donovan Caine has left her, and she’s wondering if she really wants to get involved with sexy businessman Owen Grayson. And to top it all off, Gin also has to deal with the reappearance of her long-lost baby sister, Bria, who just happens to be a police detective.

There’s a lot going on in the book, and a lot of the relationships develop and change. It really is the pivotal book in the series since Gin makes so many decisions about her future. But there are still plenty of fight scenes, magic, and steamy romance along the way.

KC: What’s next for Gin after Venom?

JE: Gin will be back for two more books. Tangled Threads comes out in May 2011, and book 5 will be out in October 2011. In Tangled Threads, an assassin named Elektra LaFleur comes to town to kill Gin. I had a lot of fun writing a character like Elektra who’s just as strong, smart, and cunning as Gin is. Elektra is definitely one of my favorite villains that I’ve written.

KC: Will Detective Donovan be making a come-back appearance… (Smokinhotbooks crosses their fingers)?

JE: Um … well … shuffles feet … I hate to disappoint you guys, but Donovan won’t be coming back in Venom. If you read the back cover copy above, it’s pretty clear who Gin will be hooking up with in this book.

I do have an idea to bring Donovan back at some point, but it will depend on if my publisher wants any more books in the series beyond the five that I’m contracted for right now. If that happens and I get to write more books in the series, I’d love to bring Donovan back – perhaps with a sweet, innocent fiancée in tow. That would definitely create all kinds of juicy drama with Donovan, Gin, and the fiancée.  –> KC: We’re on Team Owen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To express how serious we are we even made a t-shirt.

KC: How many books do you see for this series? And yes, I hope you say infinity because I’m not sure what I’ll do if this series ends.

JE:Right now, I’m contracted for five books, which will let me finish out the main story arcs, like how Gin gets her revenge on the person who murdered her family and who Gin ends up with romantically. I felt like it was important to give readers a complete story with these books. Of course, I’d love to write more books in the series beyond these five, but that will depend on sales, like everything else does. So fingers crossed!

KC: We like to torture   ask all of our guests these ridiculous really serious questions from our fav tv show, Inside the Actors Studio.

JE: Tremulous

JE:Work

What turns you on?

JE: A man in a well-made suit – think Daniel Craig as James Bond in Casino Royale.

JE: The sound of rain on a tin roof

JE: The slam of a car door

What is your favorite curse word?

JE: Black-hearted sons of bitches

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

JE: I’d like to try something quirky and fun, like being a professional ice cream taste-tester. Anything with food would be good. LOL.

What profession would you not like to do?

JE: Anything with science – it’s just not for me. I’m all about the words.

If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?

JE: You told some good stories, kid.

Sitting on my desk at the moment are a fairy statue from my critique partner Judi Fennell, a small green gargoyle I call Henri, postcards of my book covers, a pack of erotic Greek Ancient Lovers cards a friend picked up for me on her trip, a silver skeleton key, a tiny plastic skull I call Bob, a picture of Jamie Bamber from “Battlestar Galactica” and a box of Junior Mints (of course).

2. Songs I just downloaded for my iPod: “Odd One” by Sick Puppies, ”Heartbeat Song” by The Futureheads, ”Bad Romance” cover by A Smile From the Trenches and “Blood On My Hands” by The Used.

3. My husband is a much better housekeeper than I am. He’s sitting here telling me he did three loads of wash and the dishes already this morning. I love the guy. No, I don’t loan him out.

4. I’m a hockey fanatic. My husband and I have season tickets to the ECHL Reading Royals and we rarely miss a game. I love hockey players. They’re rough, tough, big, brawling alphas who play with broken bones and new stitches but they’re graceful enough to skate. Great combination.

5. Have you ever seen “Ancient Aliens” on the History Channel? I have. I actually watch it every time it’s on because I have a slightly embarrassing crush on Giorgio Tsoukalos, one of the “experts” they interview on the show. The guy has wicked cool hair.

6. Speaking of crushes, I’ve had a wicked one on Jason from “Ghost Hunters” for years. It must be the bald head. Totally works for me. He’s definitely going to show up as a hero in my Fringe series. And I’ve got just the story for him…

7. I loved the show “MXC” on SpikeTV. It was raunchy and stupid and blindingly, amazingly funny. At least to my little mind.

8. My favorite TV shows of the moment: Fringe, Caprica, SGU, Vampire Diaries, Modern Family, Community and Hawaii Five-O. That O is for OMG I love Alex O’Loughlin.

9. I can recite the entire movie, “10 Things I Hate About You,” much to my sons’ embarrassment. I saw it 7 times in the movie theater before it came out on DVD and I could buy it. No, I was not a teenager. And every time my sons go out, I say, “No drinking, no drugs, no kissing, no tattoos, no ritualistic animal slaughter of any kind.”

10. Durex Pleasure-Enhancing Tingling Lubricant. I’m just saying.

Size Matters Q&A

KC: What sparked your interest to write a tongue-in-cheek love story based on Bigfoot?

SJ: I think what prompted the Bigfoot idea was thinking about the stories the now-defunct Weekly World News used to print on its front page. There was always something about Bat Boy and Bigfoot. I started to think about how I could use Bigfoot as the hero because Bat Boy just didn’t do it for me (although there is a wonderful musical called “Bat Boy” that’s funny as all hell). Then that old saying about a man and the size of his feet popped into my head and, well, I just went from there. I knew I had to put a pretty big twist on the legend to make it work because, really, who thinks Bigfoot’s sexy? So I had to go searching for something else to add to the story. I love to read about what I call alternate archeology–ancient Egyptian electricity and aliens building the pyramids, that kind of thing–so when I found out about the red-haired giant skeletons in the west, I knew I had that missing link.

KC: I’ve read your Lucani Lovers series and Size Matters brings the lol in laugh out loud. Will this become a series *chants please say yes*?

SJ: Yes. LOL. I’ve already got an idea for the next story but right now I’m working on the next story in the Lucani Lovers series. This one’s about Evie and her men. –>

Thank you so much for having me here today.  I’m really excited about visiting your blog and touching base with the reading community.  I don’t get to do that often enough, what with writing and all.  Here are some facts you may or may not know about me.

1. I’m allergic to chocolate (I’m not kidding)

2. I think fleece is the greatest fabric ever invented.

3. I’m obsessed with HGTV, English china, the Beatles, and cemetery art.

4. If I weren’t a writer I would be a lawyer.  I specialized in international and maritime law in college.

5. By the time I was nine, I’d read every book in the children’s and young adult sections of my library, so I moved on to the adult area.  That’s when I discovered VC Andrews, Stephen King, John Saul, and Mary Higgins Clark.

6.I always wear black nail polish.

7. My first book was written at the age of six.  It was a paranormal romance featuring a witch.

8. You couldn’t pay me to wear yellow.  I look awful in it.

9. My nickname when I was little was CC, for Chubby Cheeks.

10. I don’t know how to ride a bike.
