Big big Gena Showalter news today people! While I was ‘working’ I started to see this on Twitter #chatpad and so I maximized my twitter screen and squeed silently (maybe a fist pump or two) while author Gena Showalter answered all our questions on her upcoming series.

Ecstasy in Darkness starts off with a humorus bang with agents- in- training Noelle and Eva on a mission to capture the rabid vampire McKell and bring him back to the agency. McKell may hold the secret to beating the nymphomanic apocalyptic zombie virus (NAZ-V for short) that threatens to destroy earth. If AIR doesn’t find a cure soon the Alien Queen will unleash her minions unto the world and you can forget needing to count your WW points babe, cause no one is gonna get out of this alive.

Just what is it about McKell that makes him so special…

Agent’s-In-Training Ava and Noelle running a Sting operation on the grumpy vampire to get him to come back to the agency.

‘That’s a yes,’ he rasped (watching Noelle and Ava make out)

Typical male.

“Excellent choice! I’ve been dying to put my mouth all over this little morsel for too long. So come here, you sexy piece of goodnessness, you.” Noelle grabbed Ava by the shoulders and tugged her close, lips lowering to plant a big, wet one.

Ava made sure to moan really loudly as her hands slide down…She cupped Noelle’s ass with her right hand, made a mental note to inquire what kind of workout program her friend had been doing.

“Dear God,’ McKell said now.

[Ava}She squeezed the trigger.

Too. Easy.

The kiss ended, and Noelle grinned down at her. “Wow. I really felt your passion for me that time.”

“Shut up.”

“Seriously. How long have you been walking around with a huge crush on me.”

EID was just as enjoyable as the previous book in this series Seduce the Darkness. Ava’s perspective, her shortness, and her protective instincts with anyone that messes with her friends make her both spunky and likeable. Add a quirky relationship with her bloodthirsty BFF Noelle and you have some of the most memorable lines of the series. Hell, Ava likes the fact that McKell wears his victim’s fingers as jewlery, or as Patti the millionaire matchmaker would say ‘mannery’. There’s just something refreshing about a back-talking human that gives as much as she takes and would rather knife you up than discuss anything remotely icky as ‘feelings’.

If you’ve like and read other books in the Alien Huntress series, or looking for another Showalter book to add to your reading shelf, Ecstasy in Darkness hits all my paranormal hot buttons. Funny, suspenseful and sexual chemistry that makes you squirm in your seat. This author always manages to surprise on how she can keep a series fresh.

Smokinhot Cliff Note: Ok, those of you like me (and K-Khan) and completely forgot the ending in Darkest Passion you are not alone. Darkest Lie starts off with the mysterious Scarlett locked away in the Lords’ dungeon. Gideon can’t quite understand why he is so intrigued by the Keeper of Nightmares, until she mentions she is his wife…

Darkest Lie is for the most part told from Gideone’s POV who has to speak in, well, lies. If he tells the truth he is instantly struck with lots of pain. Now, in the wrong hands this could have read really annoying, but hey, this is Gena Showalter she could write on coupons and I’d still buy ‘em. There is so much going on in Darkest Lie I could probably write a 60 page thesis and barely scratch the surface. Should I create a flow chart? Ok, maybe not. Just making sure ya’ll are awake. Although, I do so like those laser pointers.

I’m usually not a fan of old lover’s quarrel plot lines, but it didn’t read like over the top bickering-soap opera . Gideon has no memories of Scarlett (who he calls, Scar, isn’t that cute?), meanwhile Scarlett wants revenge against those who left rotting in a dungeon. Stranded and left to the wolves, she has been waiting for Gideon to return, only to find out that a. he is still alive and b. is a horndog. Not. Cool.

Showalter really brings her A-game in what I think is one of her best Lords of the Underworld books. The whole book keeps you on your toes and adds a few interesting twits that had me gasping ‘really?”. I like how she introduces the demons Lies and Nightmares, where see how two immortals and their demons fall in love. (We even get some naughty demon on demon sex…for reals!) Showalter is a master of reintroducing previous characters and not making them appear flat.

I believe Darkest Lie is one of Gena Showalter’s best LOTU book, she manages to weave in so many different side plots, while maintaining your interest in the main characters. If you haven’t read this one and have the previous 5 LOTU books on your shelves, shame on you! No, I kid. Seriously, run out and buy it so we can all squee about it on social networks.

Kresley Cole: Murdock and Danielas Story IAD

I found Cole’s imagery of the Icere world to be fantastic! What’s not to love about a Viking-like race that thrives in a winter wonderland of constant subzero temperatures.

I don’t know what it is about Vikings, the metal-horned helmets, tall Nordic features or supreme alpha presence but I can’t get enough of them. I was so utterly enraptured by this aspect of the story that I almost felt let down by Daniela’s chosen mate. I guess I had come to expect the typical male/female paradigm of Cole’s earlier books, male lusts after female, female makes the male work for it and then ka-boom, fireworks! For the most part I enjoyed this story but I couldn’t help feeling that Murdoch just didn’t deserve Daniela. He was a commitment-phobic ladies’ man that couldn’t be tied down by the trappings of love or bounded to someone who he couldn’t touch. This dynamic was so shatteringly realistic of real relationships that I felt a bit put off. Where was the unsung hero of the lore to come in and swoop me off my feet? He’s no hunky lykae that’s for sure!

The richness of Daniele’s Icere background and unique aspects of her own race made me wonder what the story would have been like if she had ended up with someone from her homeland. I felt that Daniela’s story was so enriched by this mysterious race of lore-folk that I kept wanting more to happen. Murdoch was such an ass for most of the book that I for one, wanted to stand up for Daniela! She deserved better! Had I been her matchmaker I would have set her up with the Icere male that found her and brought her back to her homeland. Alas, everything did work out in the long run and the book was still great but Murdoch, you better watch yourself. One wondering eye or thought of giving up on your commitment and I’ll petition Cole fans to have your ass sent back to N’awlins!

Gena Showalter: Aleaha Love (Shapeshifter) and Breean’s Story- Alien Huntress Series

The Rakans are back! Ms. Showalter hit one out of the park with this short story. She melded the fun, flirty dialogue that I so loved from Devyn in Seduce the Darkness and piqued my interest with a new shape-shifter species. We go back in time in a bit to before Devyn’s story and we meet Macy/aka Aleaha Love. Aleaha the long lost friend of the vampire Bride. I don’t know why I am so fascinated with the Rakans but I just can’t get enough of these guy’s: golden skin, honeyed-smell/taste, washboard abs, a warrior’ strength and a libido that promises to never have a headache. If you’re looking for an entertaining yet heart-felt read I recommend this series, you won’t be disappointed.

Should’ve stayed home, Aleaha Love thought. ‘Cause we’re gonna get spanked. Hard. And not in a good way.

“What. Ignoring me?” Devyn said with another of those snarky laughs. “Wasn’t like I was going to ask to feel you up or anything, I mean, I was just gonna surprise you with my handsiness.”

Aleaha: “ Can you take nothing seriously?”

Devyn: “Hello, have you met me? I take making out very seriously.”

I think if you’re like me and can’t wait to get your hands on anything written by Gena Showalter and Kresley Cole – this should be on your shelf immediately. If your not I would suggest you wait until this comes out in paperback unless you don’t mind the hardback pricing. Target and Borders were selling this book A LOT cheaper than Barnes and Noble – don’t make the mistake I did, I’m still “not over” my $6.00 B&N pout.
