Etruscan werewolf Kyle is a loner. The king’s assassin with a killer’s instincts. When Tamra, battered but not broken, stumbles into his world and tumbles into his bed, she captures his heart. Plagued by nightmares. Stalked by kidnappers. Tamra McMillan needs a safe haven. Tattooed bad-ass Kyle Rossini steps into her life, the last thing she expects to find is a sanctuary from her demons. And nothing—not kidnappers or visions of his possible death— can keep Kyle from her.

Title: Kiss of Moonlight by Stephanie Julian

Genre: Paranormal/Erotica {124 pages}

Publisher: Ellora’s Cave

IBSN: 9781419925399

This book was given to me for review by the author

When the author contacted me to review Kiss of Moonlight, my first thought was gimme. I’ve been a fan of Ellora’s Cave publishing for years and when I saw this book was about shifters, a little ecstasy murmur slipped out.

We first meet Kyle, a solemn werewolf, who happens to have an adorable teenage daughter named Cat. Cat in her werewolf form befriends lonely Tamara, her neighbor from a few doors down and empathizes with her need to connect with someone after a traumatic event. Tamara needs a place to escape. Beaten and running scared, she poors her heart and soul to what she thinks is an adorable stray dog.

This girl with her scarred heart, her abused body and mind and her total ignorance of the world he lived in was his. He didn’t have a rational explanation for how he knew it. He just did. And it wasn’t just lust. Lust he could control…

Move over Twilight, these Estruscan wolves have got some serious game. With Kiss of Moonlight the author creates a unique and rich shifter world in just under 150 pages. That’s skill right there! As with some Ellora’s Cave publications you might get all sex and no story (oh the humanity) and this was a nice blending of the two. I liked that Kyle was a bit older than Tamara and enjoyed the tension that brought to both characters. This must be due to what I like to call the George Clooney effect. Code name: Silver fox.

It is a bit tricky to display a character’s vulnerability without having them seem weak or needy. As Kyle plays the role as her ‘rescuer’, the author had a good blend of alpha-heroism without seeming to completely take over and help the ‘little woman out’. It is a strong pet peeve of mine when authors write flaccid heroines that can do nothing but wait with bated breath for a man to come and take care of them. A tried a true method for historical romances but is disjointed in modern and contemporary pieces. I felt this was a nice change of pace from the formulaic erotica pieces and offered a lighter erotic romance for those looking to escape the heat for a bit. I’m already tagging this series on my Ellora’s Cave hot sheet as I can’t wait to read about Cat’s story!

I found this to be a pleasurable read filled with steamy scenes and look forward to the 2nd book in the series. I hear it’s a ménage. Yes please!
