Erotica is the “x-games” of romance; it’s extreme, graphic and just plain fun. My first foray into erotica was purely by accident and after doing a little research I found a publishing company that offered books of this genre. Erotica offers online and printed erotica books in just about every fantasy from the absurd to the uncomfortable. * Caution if you have a conservative background do avoid novels rated “x-treme”, let’s just say some of them may leave a lasting impact that might have to be “worked through” with your therapist.

What I find interesting about Erotica is it appeals to our silliest to most erotic fantasies. In the colloquial sense, it’s what I like to call Ladies porn – and I mean that in the fondest way possible. And why shouldn’t we be interested in sex?! We cloak ourselves in reading “romance”, a far more socially acceptable genre, but really, who doesn’t look for novels that have some grit, a bit more oomph! (please tell me I’m not the only one raising my hand) Let’s be honest, women can be just as sexual as men and if men can have slobbering fantasies over size 34 tripple D’s, why can’t I read about Viking warriors kidnapping women for bride auctioning, or humanoid alien species that need women to help repopulate the planet (Earth girls be warned).

Sex is enjoyable and we shouldn’t be afraid to live out our hedonistic fantasies through reading. Plus, what safer avenue can there be than through the anonymity of your imagination. It’s much cheaper and easier than trying to place crumpled one’s in the g-string of some plastic surgeon’s ‘frankanstienien’ creation, or worse, being featured on HBO’ Cathouse for your ‘I dream a genie’ fantasies played out with Air Force Amy. (yikes)!

What to Watch Out For

Reading erotica is a bit like going to Forever 21, all the covers look exciting, but you’ll have to “try on” a few authors in order to see what you like. Also, it is important to note that most of the publications on Ellora’s Cave are novellas or short stories, this means having to adjust your suspension of disbelief that characters can fall in love, have sex and wrap everything up all nice and tight in less than 150 pages.

Erotica is truly a personal preference. I typically like the shape shifter, time travel, comedy and futuristic/sci fi genres. Do be warned that Erotica is extremely graphic and you can be a bit taken aback by the detail involved with the sex scenes.

Some Authors You might Want to Try

Jaid Black – funny and futuristic

Lora Leigh- Breed series, also likes threesome’s so watch out

Sherri L. King- “Rayvn’s Awakening” ,”The Jewl”

S.L. Carpenter- Witty and Sexy

Ruby Duval – “Oblivion

Lorie O’Clare – “Deadworld”
